How to work out what type of skin you have?

There are 5 types of Skin type however I believe there are more. Let me go through a simple way of explaining and identifying the 5 types then will go in to my thoughts on other skin types.

1. Normal Skin

Wouldn't we all just want a normal skin type? Well what is normal skin -  Normal skin is someone who doesn't have oily or dry skin. They will have small size pores, no excess shine on their skin, few lines and wrinkles, skin tone even and no marks or blemishes. Also no sun burns, irritation when using creams, oils and gels plus no major skin issues or problems like eczema.
Sounds like the perfect skin but even if you have a normal skin type it is important to follow a daily skin care routine to help maintain your skin balance and keep your skin looking healthy and clean. It is normal to have the hormonal breakouts now and then so keep a daily routine going.

2. Dry Skin

Now that's my skin type. Dryness will be around most of your nose, forehead and chin area. Some may have it on cheeks, under eye or even just all over your face. Dry means flaky, itchy or irritated skin when weather changes. Flaky skin shows more once applied Make Up. Anyone with dry skin would not have large pores, more like they are invisible and may have more wrinkles at earlier stages. In short skin has a lot of texture and feels rough too.

3. Oily Skin

Those with oily skin have larger pores usually, a lot of shine and extra oils coming through to the surface of their skin. This can lead to bad acne breakouts and oily skin comes through Make Up too. Your body produces excess oils which results in blockages. This is the cause of pimples and other acne blemishes. You may notice blackheads or white heads too. Skin will feel very greasy and even though your skin will be hydrated all day long when Make Up is on it won't last long as it glides off easily.

4. Combination Skin

Combination skin type is both oily and dry. Some areas will have dry itchy areas and others like the T Zone will be shiny and greasy. Your T Zone areas are the forehead, nose and chin. Even if other areas are normal skin and T Zone is oily then that is considered as Combination skin. So you have to be careful you don't get it confused with Oil skin. Oily will be all over and combination will only be certain areas.

5. Sensitive Skin

With sensitive skin the main factors are redness and irritation. You can have the following dry or oily to the surface but sensitive means easily inflamed or quickly reacts. This type of skin is advised to use less chemicals, fragrance free, alcohol free, paraben free well basically mild skin care products which is suitable for sensitive skin.

Now those are the main skin type everyone knows or have heard about. Personally I think there are many more. Some people suffer with a lot more skin issues acne prone skin, pigmentation, ageing and many more. I would consider these as different types of skin types too however it can be tackled with good skin care routine. Once the basic is done everything else can be additional to help individuals with their skin type. My advise for all these types of skin types is to choose products with no alcohol, fragrance free, any soothing ingredient or natural products are great like Aloe Vera. The amount of products out there now with more better formulas, you defiantly can find the right product for your skin.

Hope this helps you identify your skin type and help you figure out what to purchase for your own skin care routine.
