Let's break down a basic hair care which is essential and must do to maintain healthy strong hair.
Every morning with your normal brushing teeth, washing face routine brushing your hair a must. It's sunnah plus it's doesn't knot. There are so many opinions. Some say no way don't brush your hair daily as its bad and your hair falls out. Others say brush it daily as it stimulates the hair and scalp and keeps your hair in better conditions. Now my personal pick is daily brushing at least once. I can understand people who have less or thin hair can skip a day or two but generally thick bushy hair should be combed once a day. Over-brushing is a problem as it can damage the hair and take out hair so a few brush strokes daily are good. If you have the correct brush you should be fine eg detangler for thick curly hair.
Brushing your hair before washing
It is highly recommended to brush your hair before you wash your hair. That way all the knots and hair loosen for the shampoo to do its job.
Shampoo and conditioning hair
Now I just found out myself that there are different types of hair types like dry and oily. Yes just like skin the hair has hair type too. Dry hair only needs a wash twice a week, we're as oily hair requires a daily wash. Also, you have consider the lifestyle your hair goes through. eg gym, working full time, pollution may require more frequent washing as dirt builds up. I will go into details of hair types on another post soon.
Nourishing your hair
This is a must at least once a week. Oiling is great way to help hair stay healthy and shiny. A lot of oils help to maintain and grow hair so that's a good factor to do and spread the oil evenly on scalp and hair using a good comb. You can make homemade hair masks too which you can apply and use once a week.
Clean your brush
Now, this is a step I spoke about a few months back and its a must. Daily brushing can lead to dirt and dust building up on the brush. If you use dirty brush, your only brushing in the dust back into your hair. It's recommended to wash and clean brush every 2 weeks. Simple method, warm water and shampoo mix together in a big enough bowl. Leave brush for max 5 mins to soak then wash and take out any hair and dirt. Just be careful with wooden brushes not to leave it in for longer as it can damage the wood part.
