SPF talk and reccomendations.

It's official, Summer is here - SPF is a MUST!

Now that the sun is out and our skincare routines are in place. SPF is one thing you can not afford to miss out, as there are many benefits in using one.

SPF - Sun Protection factor ( This is what it stands for)

This helps to protect the top surface of your skin from UVB rays. I always remember UVB as B = BURN, which burns the skin layer. This protects you from sunburns and cancer.

I think it is so important to make sure you have an SPF that covers both UVB plus UVA rays. The A is for Aging - now those rays go deeper into the skin and create wrinkles, fines lines and aging factors on your skin. You can't physically see the damage it does but while you age it is more and more visible.

SPF has different strengths. From 15- 50 SPF and some even go up to 100 SPF. Experts recommend using SPF 15 - SPF 30 as its most effective. It is very complicated and even I get confused at times which is best. I have learned and decided to go with SPF 30 as the minimum amount I want to use and making sure both UV rays are labeled on products so it's protecting me from all skin issues.

Currently, I am using SPF under my makeup. Some foundations do contain SPF 15 however I find that isn't enough when the sun is at its highest and you are out in that direct sun. I find using a spray so much easier as the last application on top or on the bare face before leaving the house.
Some protection is better than nothing. This way you're protecting your skin from a lot of damage and aging.

Make sure you protect your children too. They need it the most as they play and be in the sun more. Re-apply as needed and encourage breaks when out in the sun. Take time out, re-apply and then go back and play ( Avoid afternoon time when the sun is at its highest )

Here is some recommended product which protects you from both UV rays. Please note I have got all the information ( Product information and how to use) from known sites that share genuine reviews. I will share more about ingredients soon on my blog which I am currently gaining more knowledge in and understanding more in-depth.

Here's the one I am currently using and love. So easy to apply and I feel confident it's protecting my skin when in direct sunlight.
For some reason this is not showing up online in Boots, I bought this in store. cost £16.00. This one can be used on Face with eyes closed.

Before I purchased this, I was 100% sure I wanted the Pixi Sun Mist. However, I looked at the packaging and reading the bottle it made me think twice. It didn't state anywhere protecting from UVA, mainly UVB (Maybe I missed it) but that is the only reason why I didn't go ahead and purchase even though hands down I love Pixi range.

Pixi Sun Mist
Retails at £18.00 at Pixi website or Boots.

Helps prevent sunburn
• If used as directed with other sun protection measures (see Directions), decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun.

I have selected the Spray forms in the next few recommendations. They all have other formula's e.g Creams and Lotions. Not all can be used on the face unless stated.

  • Keep babies and young children out of direct sunlight
  • Avoid the sun between 11 and 3
  • Overexposure to the sun is a serious health threat
  • Seek shade and cover up
  • Avoid contact with eyes and fabrics

  • Nivea has one of the biggest ranges from size to formula. It has lots of options for children too.

This is the one I used abroad for my baby as my friend had this for her daughter. Has a good factor plus protects from all UV rays.

Now Malibu lotion iv had this for a while. I am only using this to finish it off but wouldn't repurchase. why? It feels greasy on my skin and leaves a shine, greasy look to the skin. You have to apply it 30 minutes before you get exposed to the sun, where as there are others that you can apply and be in the sun straight away. Saying that I do love the smell and currently using the Face cream 50 SPF and did well during my break away.

This is the small face cream I carry in my hand for me and the kids. So easy to apply all over the face when out and about for reapplying. This does leave that greasy shiny look which I don't mind but a lot of won't like that. it's very runny which does make it easier and quicker to apply and absorb into the skin.

Check it is suitable for your skin type e.g dry skin or sensitive skin. Weather its branded or drugstore, honestly, that doesn't matter. Its what's in the product that really matters :)

As I am currently learning more about ingredients, will share the one I choose to use (Has all the great benefits) during my skincare challenge month.
